Overview

Maine Community Foundation Founded in 1983, the Maine Community Foundation brings people and resources together to build a better Maine through strategic giving, community leadership, personalized service, local expertise and strong investments. The Maine Community Foundation established its first scholarship fund in 1984. Now, through the generosity of individuals, community organizations, and businesses that believe in the importance of education, the community foundation awards more than $3 million each year from nearly 700 scholarship funds. MaineCF scholarships provide financial assistance for Maine residents attending accredited colleges, universities, technical and career schools. The funds also support students attending private high schools, camps, and experiential learning programs. Geiger/Montello Scholarship Fund This renewable scholarship fund was established in 2008 to encourage students of Montello Elementary School in Lewiston, Maine, or its successor agency, to aspire to higher education by providing renewable support to pursue post-secondary education at a two- or four-year college. Previous Geiger/Montello Scholarship recipients in good academic standing are invited to submit their fall transcript, an indication of financial need (Student Aid Report or FAFSA information) and a letter or video link to the committee about their experiences at college for renewal consideration for the upcoming academic year.

Eligibility

Eligible recipients will be graduating high school seniors who attended Montello Elementary School for at least one year, with a preference for students who were enrolled in the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades. Eligible students need not have graduated from a Maine high school, but do need to be enrolled full time and demonstrate: financial needthe ability to succeed in college with preference for hard-working students not necessarily ranked at the top of their high school classwell-rounded participation in school and community activities. In particular the committee seeks students who eagerly devote more than the minimum required amount of time to their activities and who are multi-faceted.
