FVD Research Grants

The Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry offers annual research grants to advance the science of veterinary dentistry and oral surgery.

• Veterinary dentistry research
• Oral and maxillofacial surgery
• All topics relevant to veterinary dentistry

Award History:

• 2022: Five grants awarded for $10,000 each
• 2021: Two grants awarded for $10,000 each
• 2020: No grants awarded
• 2019: Two grants awarded for $10,000 each
• 2018: Two grants awarded for $10,000 each
• 2017: Two grants awarded for $10,000 total (one FVD-funded, one AVD-funded)
• 2016: Two grants awarded for $10,000 each
• 2015: One grant awarded for $7,500
• 2014: One grant awarded for $7,500
• 2013: Two grants awarded for $7,500 each
• 2012: One continuation grant for $5,000
• 2009: One grant for $5,000

Eligibility:

• Researchers in veterinary dentistry and related fields
• Academic institutions and private researchers

Geographic Scope: Global (US, Canada, and Caribbean researchers have been funded)

Mission: Education, Research & Outreach - to advance the science of veterinary dentistry with research grants and scientific publications

Application Process

General Requirements:

• Submit research proposal on any topic relevant to veterinary dentistry and oral/maxillofacial surgery
• Follow specified format and schedule (varies by year)

Example Timeline (2020-2021 Cycle):

1. December 18, 2020: Application deadline (11:59 PM PST)
2. January 4, 2021: Applications distributed to Grants Committee
3. January 31, 2021: Committee recommendations forwarded to Board
4. February 2021: Recipients announced

Review Process:

• Panel of three board-certified veterinary dentists (anonymous to each other)
• Proposals rated on multiple dimensions including impact
• Committee reviews for quality and innovation
