Fast Tracks to Success - SeVEDS Workforce Development Program

Geographic Scope: Windham Region, Vermont (all four high schools)

Implementing Organization: Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation (BDCC) in collaboration with SeVEDS

• Bellows Falls Union High School
• Twin Valley Middle-High School
• Brattleboro Union High School
• Regional Career and Tech Centers

Program Objectives:

• Increase youth engagement in and knowledge of the local job market
• Address gap in student awareness of existing careers and employment opportunities within the region
• Provide supplemental career development curricula and logistical support
• Connect students to regional employers and workforce opportunities

Focus Areas:

• Career development programming in high schools
• Field trips to local employers
• Employer engagement and awareness
• Integration of workforce data with career education

Background & Research:

• Developed after research identifying workforce needs (2013 CEDS)
• Based on 5-year hiring inventory survey of 35 largest regional employers
• Identified 3,000+ job openings over 5 years in:

- Advanced Manufacturing
- Healthcare
- Social & Human Services
- Green Building and Related Services
- Tourism/Hospitality

• Identified gaps in existing high school career programming through career menu survey
