Award Amount: $18,000 grant

Geographic Scope: Windham Region, Vermont (all four high schools)

Implementing Organization: Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation (BDCC) in collaboration with SeVEDS

Regional Career and Tech Centers

Program Objectives:

Increase youth engagement in and knowledge of the local job market

Address gap in student awareness of existing careers and employment opportunities within the region

Provide supplemental career development curricula and logistical support

Connect students to regional employers and workforce opportunities

Focus Areas:

Career development programming in high schools

Field trips to local employers

Employer engagement and awareness

Integration of workforce data with career education

Background & Research:

Developed after research identifying workforce needs (2013 CEDS)

Based on 5-year hiring inventory survey of 35 largest regional employers

Identified 3,000+ job openings over 5 years in:

- Advanced Manufacturing
- Healthcare
- Social & Human Services
- Green Building and Related Services
- Tourism/Hospitality

Identified gaps in existing high school career programming through career menu survey
