Family Opportunity Fund

Geographic Scope: Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion, Morgan and Putnam counties in Central Indiana

Focus Areas: Integrated programming serving both youth and adults in the same household, aimed at improving:

  • Education

  • Financial stability

  • Well-being of the whole family
  • Eligibility: Nonprofits outside United Way's accredited partner network with annual budgets and service focus on family-based programs

    Status: Active. In 2026, United Way awarded $680,000 to 7 nonprofits (with 2 organizations receiving grants from both this fund and the Basic Needs Fund).

    Background: This is the second year United Way has opened the fund to nonprofits outside its accredited network as part of expanding investments and collaboration across Central Indiana's seven-county service area.

    4. Selection: Grant recipients announced

    Note: In 2026, 16 nonprofits submitted letters for Family Opportunity funding, with 12 invited to submit full applications.
