Geographic Scope: Public schools within 50 miles of Oak Ridge, Tennessee

Focus Areas: K-12 STEM education; technology and equipment for science and math classrooms

Eligibility:

• Must teach STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics)
• Teach grades 3-10
• Work at a public school
• Located within 50 miles of Oak Ridge, Tennessee

• Technology and equipment for classroom use
• Educational tools and resources for STEM instruction
• Equipment to modernize and upgrade classroom technology

Program Details:

• Annual competition open to individual STEM teachers
• Applicants must submit a video application showcasing their vision
• Applications are evaluated on enthusiasm, creativity, and potential impact
• Program benefits can extend to entire grades or departments, not just individual classrooms
• Over nearly 15 years, ORAU has awarded more than $500,000 in technology to local schools

Launched in 2008 in conjunction with ORAU's new Oak Ridge office building featuring a Center for Science Education. The program aims to help improve STEM education in public schools and provide teachers with modern tools and technology for engaging students.

Required Materials:
1. Video submission - applicants must shoot and edit a video showcasing their vision
- Video should demonstrate enthusiasm for STEM education
- Should highlight student excitement for technology
- Should explain how the makeover will impact the classroom/grade/department
- Video should convey the teacher's passion and energy

2. Written application/proposal - must include:
- Description of how new technology will transform the classroom
- Plans for benefiting entire grade or department (if applicable)
- Vision for STEM education goals
- Clear articulation of needs and intended use
