Emergency Assistance Fund

Purpose: To help currently enrolled students and current university employees (faculty and staff) who face financial hardship resulting from emergency or crisis situations.

Eligible Applicants

• Currently enrolled students
• Current university employees (faculty and staff)

Qualifying Events

Applicants must have a documented hardship, event, or emergency that has caused financial stress. Examples include:

• Natural disaster (displacement or destruction of primary residence)
• Death of a family member
• Life-altering accidents
• Food insecurity
• Home displacement
• COVID-19 related hardships

Geographic Scope

• University of Nebraska System (all campuses)

Administration

• Committee Structure: The Emergency Assistance Fund is administered by a committee that includes a representative from each NU System campus and a chairperson appointed by the President
• Decision Process: The committee will review applications, determine whether financial assistance will be awarded, and notify applicants of decisions

How to Apply

1. Review Qualifications
   • Review the Emergency Assistance Fund policy to ensure you meet the qualifications for assistance
2. Complete the Application Form
   • Download and complete the application form
   • Submit to NUemergencyfund@nebraska.edu
3. Provide Documentation
   • The committee may request additional information from the applicant prior to making a decision
4. Receive Notification
   • The committee will review the application
   • Committee determines whether financial assistance will be awarded
   • Applicant is notified of the decision
   • Detailed information on notification and payment is available in the EAF policy

Required Materials

• Completed application form
• Documentation of hardship, emergency, or crisis event
• Any additional information requested by the committee
