Ehrlich-Koldovsky Early Career Award for Research in Human Milk and Lactation

Purpose: Biennial award to recognize early-career investigators who have begun to make outstanding, original scientific contributions to the study of human milk and lactation.

    Eligibility

  • Qualifications:
  • - Junior faculty level or similar position with independent research responsibilities - Ph.D. or M.D. degree obtained within the last 10 years - Work published in excellent peer-reviewed journals - Work beginning to be recognized internationally - Work primarily due to efforts of the nominee, not mentors or colleagues - Not required to be a member of the Society
  • Additional Requirement: Candidate must have abstract accepted for either oral or poster presentation at an International Scientific Meeting

    Nature of Award

  • Plaque and/or certificate from the Executive Committee
  • Presented at the international scientific meeting where the awardee presented their abstract
  • Nominator introduces recipient (if in attendance); President presents the award
  • If funds available from the society's general fund, a travel grant may be awarded to defray meeting costs (amount determined by Executive Committee in consultation with Treasurer)

Past recipients include Sharon Donovan (1995), Rafael Perez-Escamilia (1999), Lars Bode (2012), and Bridget Young (2021).

How to Apply

Nomination Process

1. Nomination Requirements: Candidate nominated by a Society member in good standing (may be mentor or senior colleague; may be current or past Executive Committee member)
2. Required Documents:
- Curriculum vitae of the candidate
- The most significant research publication from the nominee
- Letter of nomination detailing qualifications of the candidate
3. Submission: Documents sent to the President of the Society
4. Timing: Three to six months prior to the meeting where award is to be presented
5. Presentation Requirement: Candidate must have abstract accepted for either oral or poster presentation at an International Scientific Meeting

    Selection Process

  • Selection requires majority affirmative vote by Executive Committee members in attendance at the presentation of research at the Biennial ISRHML Conference
