Program Purpose: Provides emergency funding and scholarships to support educational attainment and success for students experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

Geographic Scope

• Minnesota (MN, US)
• Serves homeless and housing-insecure students in Twin Cities and greater Minnesota

Funding Focus

Supports removal of barriers to educational success:
• School Supplies: Backpacks, notebooks, pens, writing materials
• Clothing & Hygiene: School uniforms, shoes, gym shoes, hygiene products
• Mobility: Transportation funds, bus passes
• Necessities: Clothing, shelter for students in transitional housing
• Enrichment: Summer camp attendance, activity costs
• Academic Support: GED preparation, tutoring programs, trauma-informed individualized care
• Transition Support: Items to help children transition into new schools
• Basic Needs: Meals, nutrition support

• Students experiencing homelessness
• Students in transitional housing
• Students facing housing instability
• Youth exiting homelessness
• At-risk youth
• Youth impacted by domestic violence, dating violence, or sexual assault

• School districts (public schools)
• Shelter organizations
• Youth-serving non-profits
• Housing and community development organizations
• Faith-based youth services
• Alternative learning centers
• Youth crisis shelters
• Educational advocacy organizations

Award Examples (2017-2018)

• Typical awards: $2,300 - $3,000 per organization
• Emergency fund allocations for multiple organizations simultaneously
