Earl C. Sams Foundation Grant

The Earl C. Sams Foundation, established in 1946, provides grants to public charities, primarily in South Texas, across various fields including education, health, and social services. With over $48 million granted since its inception, the Foundation seeks to support impactful community projects. Notably, the application deadlines are set thirty days prior to the Board's meetings in March, June, and November. Organizations should note that individual applicants are not eligible for funding.

NOTE: The Board of Directors meets three times a year, generally the first Monday of March, June and November. The application deadline for each meeting is generally thirty days before each meeting. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered at the upcoming meeting, but will be considered at the following meeting.
The Earl C. Sams Foundation, Inc. was originally organized under the laws of New York on December 9, 1946. The original assets of the Foundation consisted of forty thousand shares of common stock of J. C. Penney Company. The administration of the Foundation was originally conducted in New York, but after the death of Earl C. Sams on July 23, 1950, the administration was moved to Brownsville, Texas. Administration of the Foundation was subsequently moved to Corpus Christi, Texas; and the Foundation was converted into a Texas foundation by a series of legal steps, which were completed in June of 1988. Since its inception in 1946, the Foundation has given out over $48 million in grants.

While the Foundation does periodically fund scholarships at various institutions, the institution, not the Foundation, determines the recipients of those scholarship funds.

Eligibility

The Foundation considers grant applications only from public charities as defined under the Internal Revenue Code and applicable regulations. The Earl C. Sams Foundation makes grants primarily in the South Texas area.

Ineligibility

The Foundation does not grant money to individuals.
