    About Dr. Francis L. Stevens, M.D.:

  • Known as "Doc" to everyone

  • Called to be a physician as a child

  • Graduated from University of Cincinnati Medical School in 1956

  • Completed internship at Cincinnati General (now University of Cincinnati Hospital) in 1957

  • Served as U.S. Navy physician on the Destroyer Force and USS Yosemite for two years; performed appendectomy during violent storm at sea

  • Completed General Practice residency at Lafayette Hospital, Louisiana

  • Opened medical practice in West Union in 1962 and practiced for 45 years

  • Made house calls, delivered babies, sometimes accepted chickens or homemade items as payment

  • Continued care at Adams County Hospital until 2007

  • Worked at Adams County Regional Medical Center After Hours Care

  • Served as in-house physician at Adams County Cancer Center, where he encouraged patients and shared God's love

  • Officially retired in 2015

  • Professional memberships: Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA), American Medical Association (AMA), Adams County Medical Society, American Association of Family Practitioners (AAFP), Ohio Academy of Family Practice (OAFP)

    • Special Note (2026): The Stevens family generously doubled their donation, funding two scholarships in 2026.
