Douglas A. Fecher Excellence in Learning Scholarship

Funder: WPCU Sunshine Community Fund®

Background: Established in honor of Wright-Patt Credit Union's former President and CEO Douglas A. Fecher, this program supports communities served by WPCU through the promotion of academic opportunity and excellence in higher education for students in need.

Award Amount:

  • Initial award: $2,500 per recipient

  • Renewable for eligible recipients: Additional $2,500 for the following fall semester (total $5,000)

  • At least two recipients selected annually

  • Renewal funds disbursed 12 months after original scholarship funds are awarded
  • Geographic Scope: Communities served by Wright-Patt Credit Union (Southwest and Central Ohio)

    Focus Areas:

  • Academic excellence in higher education

  • Students with financial need

  • Support for vulnerable populations seeking educational advancement
  • Eligibility Requirements

    Applicant must:

  • Be a Wright-Patt Credit Union, Inc. member at time of application submission

  • Be either:

  • - A second-semester high school senior expected to graduate at end of semester, OR
    - Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate at Wright State University or University of Cincinnati
  • Demonstrate commitment to helping others and leadership potential, which may include:

  • - Participation in extracurricular activities at school
    - Community involvement
    - Volunteer activities
    - Consideration given to students with limited ability to participate due to socio-economic circumstances
  • Demonstrate financial need in application (DO NOT submit files with social security numbers, bank statements, tax returns, paycheck copies, or other financial documents)

  • Maintain academic success with minimum 2.5 GPA or equivalent

  • Submit two letters of recommendation from adults in applicant's community

  • Provide proof of enrollment prior to receipt of funds:

  • - Proof of enrollment as undergraduate student at Wright State University or University of Cincinnati for upcoming semester, OR
    - Acceptance letter into undergraduate program at these institutions for upcoming semester

    Renewal Eligibility:

  • Must remain eligible and enrolled in undergraduate program at Wright State University or University of Cincinnati

  • Proof of eligibility may be required for renewal funds

    Application Process

    1. Submit completed application with all supporting documentation through the online application portal

    2. Required Materials:
    - Completed application form
    - Two letters of recommendation from adults in your community
    - Proof of financial need (as part of application narrative)
    - Demonstrated commitment to helping others and leadership (through application essay/narrative)
    - Academic records showing GPA

    3. Important Notes:
    - Do NOT submit files containing:
    - Social security numbers
    - Bank statements
    - Tax returns
    - Paycheck copies
    - Other financial documents
    - Account setup required on application site

    4. Proof of Enrollment: Prior to receiving funds, provide:
    - Official enrollment verification for upcoming semester at Wright State University or University of Cincinnati, OR
    - Acceptance letter into undergraduate program

    5. Renewal Process: For eligible recipients seeking renewal:
    - Remain enrolled as full-time undergraduate at eligible institution
    - Provide proof of continued eligibility if requested
    - Funds disbursed 12 months after original scholarship award
