Dorothea B. Shaw Scholarship

Program Status: Active; endowed scholarship in perpetuity

Geographic Scope: Duval County, Florida

Award Amount: $1,500 per year for four years of undergraduate study (total $6,000)

Purpose

Provides scholarships to outstanding students pursuing higher education at accredited colleges and universities in the Northeastern United States.

Eligibility Requirements

• Resident of Duval County, Florida
• High school graduate planning to attend accredited college or university
• Must choose an institution in the Northeastern United States region
• Academic merit and potential considered

Program History

• Established through the will of Dorothea B. Shaw
• Creates an endowed scholarship fund continuing in perpetuity
• First recipient: Gabriel Valdes (2015, Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

Impact

Recipients have gone on to prestigious institutions including:

• Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
• Yale University
• Harvard Business School (deferred admission programs)
