Disaster Member Relief Fund - Ice Storm Assistance

Overview: Emergency financial assistance program for SEIU 503 members experiencing hardship from qualifying disaster events.

Current Program: 2024 Ice Storm Assistance

Geographic Scope: Oregon (SEIU Local 503 jurisdiction)

Eligibility:

  • Must be a member as of January 15, 2024

  • Must have been displaced or suffered other financial hardship as a result of the 2024 ice storms
  • Award Amount: Up to $250 per member

    Fund Distribution: Evaluated based on value of loss

    Background: The Disaster Member Relief Fund was created during the COVID-19 crisis and is now a permanent program. Examples of past assistance:

  • COVID-19 pandemic (2020): Distributed $306,400 to 1,647 members who lost income during shutdowns

  • 2020 Labor Day wildfires: Distributed $137,000 to members financially impacted by evacuations and property damage

  • 2021 ice storm and power outages: Helped 1,152 members financially impacted by the event
  • Funding Sources: SEIU 503 Board of Directors, Sublocal funds, donations from SEIU members and community
