Debra Muren Nursing Scholarship

Honoree: Debra Jean Muren (1951-2010), a dedicated direct care nurse and compassionate caregiver who worked as an ICU nurse, family practice nurse, and home health nurse. She passed away from early-onset Alzheimer's disease at age 59.

Overview: The Muren family created this scholarship in 2006 to recognize Bellevue students pursuing nursing careers. It is endowed through the Bellevue Schools Foundation and administered by the Bellevue School District.

Award Amount: $2,000 per year (increased in 2024)

Award Duration: Three-year scholarship ($2,000 each year)

Eligible Applicants:

  • Students from the Health Careers Program

  • Bellevue School District students

  • Students intending to pursue nursing degrees
  • Selection Criteria:

  • Commitment to nursing as a career

  • Community service and volunteer experience

  • Character, leadership, and commitment to service
