Carla Vendeland Community Service Award
Honoree: Carla B. Vendeland (1942-1994), a Newport High School parent who worked endlessly to fight world hunger and promote education. She created the PTSA Knight Valor Program in 1989 to recognize Newport students who make a difference in their community through extraordinary volunteer efforts. She passed away from cancer at age 52.
Overview: Established in 1996 in her memory and in honor of her dedication to community service, this award recognizes Newport High School graduating seniors who demonstrate exceptional commitment to volunteerism.
