Crime Prevention Fund Police Agency Grants

The Crime Prevention Fund provides special-request grants to police departments in its service area west of Lake Minnetonka, Minnesota. Requests it has funded include special equipment, police officer and staff wellness, volunteer reserve officer support, police explorer programmes, police chaplain programmes, neighbourhood outreach, National Night Out and Night to Unite, drug take-back outreach, crime prevention materials, citizen academies and assistance for injured officers.

Examples of funded items include DARE programme materials, an electric patrol bike, solar-powered and trailer-mounted speed awareness signs, an automatic electronic defibrillator, child ID kits, prescription drug disposal bags, a police officer wellness and training centre, and rewards for tips that solve crimes.

The fund is a 501(c)(3) that is not part of any government and is barred from political activity. Police chiefs from the Minnetrista Public Safety Department and the Orono Police Department serve as advisors to its board and may request non-budgeted financial support consistent with the fund's vision, mission and philosophy.
