Corey C. Griffin Scholarship

Overview: Two $5,000 scholarships awarded annually to high school seniors to help offset the cost of post-secondary education. The scholarship honors Corey C. Griffin, who died in 2014 at age 27 in a diving accident. The scholarship recognizes his "never quit" attitude, passionate support for causes he believed in, and his philosophy of finding good in others, lending a helping hand to those in need, and having the courage to create change.

Award Amount: Two $5,000 scholarships ($10,000 total)

Eligible Schools:

  • Lone Peak High School

  • Bozeman High School

  • Belgrade High School

  • Gallatin High School

  • Manhattan High School
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • High school seniors attending one of the eligible schools

  • Must have applied to a post-secondary education institution

  • Children of Yellowstone Club employees at the Director level and above are NOT eligible
  • Award Criteria:
    Scholarships are awarded to applicants who most closely exemplify:

  • Corey's "never quit" attitude

  • Passionate support and leadership for causes in which they believe

  • Philosophy of: finding good in others, lending a helping hand to those in need, having courage to create change

  • This is NOT a need-based scholarship
  • Application Timeline:

  • Application opens: February 1

  • Application deadline: March 15

  • Interviews: Late March or April

  • Award announcements: End of April
  • Geographic Scope: Big Sky region (Greater Big Sky area, Montana)

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Step 1: School Nomination

  • Interested applicants must reach out to their school counselor

  • Each eligible school can nominate no more than 3 students
  • Step 2: Eligibility Form

  • Applicants fill out an eligibility form in the online application portal called Submittable
  • Step 3: Full Application (if eligible)

  • Once determined to be eligible, applicants are directed to an online application
  • Application Components:

  • Personal goals

  • Activities

  • Request for a reference in support of application
  • Step 4: Interview (if selected)

  • Top candidates are interviewed in late March or April by a selection committee
  • Step 5: Notification

  • Award announcements made directly to students in the application portal by end of April
