Funder: The Garden Club of Houston

Background: The Garden Club of Houston, organized in 1924 and a member of the Garden Club of America since 1932, strives to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening in the community and to restore, improve, and protect the quality of the environment through programs and action in the fields of conservation, civic improvement, and education.

Funding Focus

The Community Contributions Committee receives, researches, and considers proposals for awarding Club funds to worthwhile civic and community projects. Examples of past projects include:
• Implementation of landscape creation and preservation (public gardens and parks, school and teaching gardens, arboreta, and nature centers)
• Educational publications and events
• Scholarships
• Contributions to library collections

Eligibility

• Eligible entities: 501(c)(3) organizations or government entities only
• Geographic scope: Greater Houston area (priority given to organizations in this region)
• Ineligible uses: Grants are NOT made to operating funds or to endowments

Requirements

• Grant recipients must submit a follow-up report one year from the May notification date of approval
• Recipients must indicate how funds were spent in accordance with grant guidelines
• Recipients must be available, upon request, to host on-site visits
• Funding is conditional; inability to utilize funds according to guidelines within the time frame may result in grant rescission
