Overview

The Community Change Grants program aims to provide support to America Walks' network of advocates, grassroots organizers, organizations, and agencies using innovative, engaging, and inclusive programs and projects to create tangible change at the community level.

Funding Focus

The program funds projects that:
• Increase physical activity and active transportation in specific communities
• Cross engage people and organizations newer to walking and walkability efforts
• Demonstrate a culture of antiracism and inclusive health and design
• Support and cultivate connected, active and deeply engaged communities

Funding Sources

• CDC Active People, Healthy Nation Partners (primary funding)
• General Motors (funds additional $1,500 projects in designated towns and cities with GM facilities)

Selection Criteria

Grantees are selected based on:
• Clear drive to create healthy, active, engaged communities
• Foundation of equity and authentic engagement of whole community
• Support for walking and moving for transportation, health, and recreation
• Response to demonstrated community need
• Broad and diverse community support
• Culture of inclusive design
• Service to under-invested communities
• Projects centering BIPOC residents, cross-demographic coalitions, or unique civic partnerships
