Classroom Research Grant PK-6

The Classroom Research Grant PK-6, offered by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, aims to foster collaborative research between teachers and mathematics educators in Pre-K-6 classrooms. The purpose of this grant is to support and encourage a collaborative team of teacher(s) and college or university mathematics educator(s) in conducting classroom-based research in mathematics education.
Proposal Information
The research must be a collaborative effort involving a college or university mathematics educator (a mathematics education researcher or a teacher of mathematics learning, teaching, or curriculum) and one or more grades Pre-K-6 classroom teachers (individuals who spend half or more of their work time teaching in the classroom).
The proposal may include, but is not restricted to, research on the following topics:
Curriculum development and implementationInstruction for at-risk students or students from diverse backgrounds and experiencesStudents' thinking about a particular mathematics concept or set of conceptsConnection of mathematics to other disciplinesFocused learning and teaching of mathematics with embedded use of technology (any acquisition of equipment must support the proposed plan but not be the primary focus of the grant)Innovative assessment or evaluation strategies
This research should lead to a draft article suitable for submission in the Mathematics Teacher Educator, Journal for Research in Mathematics Education or Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK-12.
Proposals must address the following:
research design, the plan for collecting and analyzing data, and the anticipated impact on students' learning.

Eligibility

Eligible ApplicantsThe primary applicant may be either a mathematics educator or a classroom teacher currently teaching mathematics at the grades Pre-K-6 level.No person(s) may receive more than one award administered by the Mathematics Education Trust in the same academic year.Organizational AwardFor the purposes of MET grants, an organization is defined to be a school, school district, university, or non-profit mathematics education organization. Project activities are to be completed between June 1 and May 31.Funds may be used for any reasonable project expenses, including stipends for participating researchers and collaborating teachers, which are well justified. You must be a member of this organization to apply for this award - become a member. The primary applicant must be a current (on the day of the application) Essential or Premium member of NCTM.

Ineligibility

No indirect costs are permitted.Past recipients of this grant are not eligible to reapply.Major technology needs should be covered by funds from other sources.
