CityBridge Laguna Honda Grant Program

Mission: Lift the spirits, engage the minds, and enrich the lives of the San Francisco Bay Area's vulnerable elderly and adults with disabilities.

Award Amount: Grants averaging $30,000; will consider proposals both lower and higher

Geographic Scope: San Francisco Bay Area (specific counties served - see website for list)

Focus Areas:

  • Programs serving underserved elderly and disabled populations

  • Music, Art, Wellbeing, Technology, and Holiday programs

  • Projects that enhance quality of life
    • Eligibility Requirements

    • Target Population: Underserved elderly and disabled (defined as Medi-Cal and Medicare-eligible)
    • Geographic: Programs must address needs in San Francisco Bay Area
    • Organization Type: 501(c)(3) organizations, nonprofits
    • Nondiscrimination: CBLH complies with California and federal nondiscrimination laws; funds programs serving all populations regardless of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, ancestry, gender, sex, sexual orientation, disability, HIV status, marital status, veteran status, political affiliation, age
    • One Grant Per Year: Applicants may be awarded only one CBLH grant per fiscal year
    • Board Conflict: Current CBLH Board members, staff, and immediate family are not eligible

      What CBLH Does NOT Fund

    • Programs for those with mental illness or developmental disability requiring organized program of active psychiatric intervention (per California Administrative Code)
    • Psychiatric diagnosis without coexisting dementia or other medical diagnosis requiring SNF or acute care
    • Substance abuse programs
    • Homeless populations
    • For-profit programs or facilities
    • Administrative costs (grants are for programs/services only)

      Project Requirements

    • Must be completed within 18 months of execution of Grant Agreement (12-18 months standard)
    • Must include estimated project cost and budget
    • Must distinguish between administrative and non-administrative expenses
    • Grant recipients must allow CBLH to photograph completed projects and use photographs/narratives for fundraising and publicity purposes
    • CBLH will follow up 9 months after project approval if no contact; reserves right to rescind funding if project not complete within 18 months

    Application Process

    Review Timeline:

  • Applications reviewed by CBLH Board of Directors in the fall of each year

  • Applicants notified in November of the same year if grant approved

  • Grants voted on by Board in September
  • Required Application Information:
    1. Brief history of your organization
    2. Organization's IRS 501(c)(3) status
    3. Contact information and website address
    4. Description of programs/services provided and populations served
    5. Detailed description of the program/services as it applies to this application
    6. Identification of populations served by the program/services
    7. Specific site(s) where the program/services will be held
    8. Accounting of the program/services (separate administrative from non-administrative expenses)
    9. Total amount of funding request
    10. Estimated project budget and costs

    Evaluation Criteria:

  • Projects evaluated by degree they advance CBLH's mission

  • All eligible proposals evaluated by review committee composed of CBLH board members

  • CBLH reserves right to request clarification and/or supplemental information from applicants
  • Grant Agreement:

  • Upon approval, applicant must accept and sign Charitable Grant Agreement

  • Funding reimbursement occurs upon successful implementation of proposed project as determined by CBLH

  • Agreement includes detailed project scope and estimated grant amount
  • Important Notes:

  • Only apply if resources are truly needed (due to limited funding pool)

  • CBLH shall not be liable for any expenses incurred before date of Grant Agreement

  • CBLH reserves right to reject any or all proposals, award varying amounts, request reapplication to remedy submission errors, and modify guidelines and procedures at any time
