Overview

The Del Mar Foundation supports organizations, projects and activities that promote civic pride and community cohesiveness in Del Mar, California - acquiring and preserving open space, improving beaches and parklands, and sponsoring cultural programs and community events. Preference goes to projects, activities and direct provision of services to, for and within the Del Mar community.

The Foundation has grown its grantmaking over more than forty years; in FY24 it awarded in excess of $138,000 to community programs and projects. Past grants include a series of regional climate change symposia, all-terrain beach wheelchairs and access mats for the City, transportation and meals for seniors through Del Mar Community Connections' Tuesday Lunch Connections, garden maintenance by the Del Mar Garden Club at the post office, community building and library, a succulent kiosk built by two local Girl Scout troops, a customised lifeguard truck, and student art canvases displayed in downtown store windows over the holidays.

How to Apply

The Grants Committee accepts applications throughout the year and meets monthly to review recent submissions. An applicant may apply as often as needed. Approved requests then go to the Board of Directors at its next meeting, and the Grants Committee notifies the applicant of the Board's decision.

Download the grant application form from the Foundation's Apply for a Grant page, save it as a new file, and email it with all supporting documents to grants@delmarfoundation.org. Alongside the form, provide: a description of the project or program and what you hope to accomplish; a timeline; a projected budget; how the expenditure of awarded funds will be documented; how you will evaluate results; how you will recognise the Del Mar Foundation within the project; a description of your organization with a list of board members and known project participants; a resolution or other authorization supporting the application; evidence of tax-exempt or nonprofit status; and evidence of City of Del Mar or other government approval where your project requires it.
