Summary

The Child Well-Being Grant Program, established by the Doris Duke Foundation, focuses on promoting the healthy development of children and preventing abuse. With a commitment to addressing systemic inequities, the program supports initiatives that strengthen social service systems and foster partnerships to enhance access to services. It prioritizes funding for projects that encourage community-based interventions and the development of future leaders dedicated to improving child welfare, ensuring all children have the opportunity to thrive in safe and supportive environments.

Overview

NOTE: The majority of the Doris Duke Foundation's (DDF) grants are awarded through competitive (request-for-proposal) processes or by invitation. While very few grants result from unsolicited letters of inquiry, foundation staff do review unsolicited letters from nonprofit organizations to see if there is a possible fit with DDF's program goals and strategies and to identify potential funding opportunities.Prior to submitting an unsolicited letter of inquiry, interested applicants are strongly encouraged to review the relevant National Program webpage within DDF's website to determine the potential fit of their project. Child Well-Being National Program Prevention-Oriented Child Welfare How can we reimagine the child welfare system to put the needs of kids and families first? We support bold, community-led experiments that proactively create the conditions for children and families to thrive. Spearheaded by local and regional partners, these projects focus on prevention and meet families’ needs before—not after—maltreatment occurs. By investing in communities and families, we believe we can prevent that crisis in the first place. OPT-In for Families The Opportunities for Prevention & Transformation Initiative (OPT-In) is testing a meaningful alternative to the child welfare system, one that recognizes families as best positioned to safely care for their children in their own homes and communities.
