Purpose To promote continuing education for any course of study by awarding scholarships for attendance at institutions of higher education to individuals who demonstrate academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, financial need, and community service. Background Chester Rotary Club, Charles H. Kinsey, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established in July 2012 to honor Charles “Chuck” Henry Kinsey, Jr., of Chester, Va. Mr. Kinsey was a 1963 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point who retired as a colonel with 30 years of active duty in the U.S. Army. In addition to serving his country, Mr. Kinsey served his community as a Rotarian since 1991. He was a member and past president of the Chester Rotary Club, as well as an active volunteer in the Richmond Friends of the Homeless and the Shepherd Center of Chesterfield. The Rotary Club of Chester’s main objective is service: service in the community, service in the workplace, and service around the globe. Rotarians in nearly every country in the world share a dedication to the ideal of “Service Above Self.” This scholarship will serve as a lasting memorial to Mr. Kinsey for his service to the community and in helping area students pursue their educational goals. The scholarship committee will review and evaluate all applications and announce awards each spring. The committee will also review and revise the scholarship policy and criteria as necessary. The application must be submitted online here. Required Documents All required documents must be uploaded with the application. Any mailed or hand-delivered documents will not be accepted. SAI is an eligibility index number used to determine federal student aid and is generated from the completed FAFSA Application.Two Letters of Recommendation (Current) Failure to submit the online application with all documents attached to the application by the deadline will disqualify an applicant from consideration for the Chester Rotary Club, Charles H. Kinsey, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Endowment. The John Randolph Foundation Scholarship Committee reserves the right to interview applicants in the final stages of selection. The decision of the scholarship committee in all matters regarding scholarships is final. Canvassing a scholarship benefactor, any John Randolph Foundation trustee or employee shall result in immediate disqualification. Scholarship awards are subject to the availability of funds, meeting the criteria as outlined in the guidelines of the individual scholarship program and contingent upon acceptance and enrollment in an approved program. John Randolph Foundation respects the privacy of scholarship applicants. Any personal or financial information will be used for the purpose of assessing the scholarship application and will be made available solely to the Foundation’s staff and scholarship selection committee. This scholarship program is available to students who reside in Southern Chesterfield County, Virginia. {Southern Chesterfield County is defined as follows: Starting from Chesterfield Courthouse, east along Route 288 to the James River, south to Hopewell, continuing along the Appomattox River (but not inclusive of the city of Colonial Heights) to the Matoaca community and north along a line that approximates Bundle Road to Beach Road and back to the Chesterfield Courthouse}.Student applicants will be requested to provide their voting precinct and preference may be given to students who have been active participants in an Interact Club. Student interns working for John Randolph Foundation are eligible to apply; Scholarship Applicants MustAttending or Express an interest in attending institutions of higher education as a full-time or part-time undergraduate student (at least 6 hours per semester);Be a well-rounded individual with extracurricular activities;Must have a G.P.A. of 2.5 or better;Demonstrate active participation in the community;Provide verification of financial need;Demonstrate active participation in an Interact Club;Provide voting precinct information for purpose in determining residency;Meet the remaining criteria as outlined in the application guidelines;Submit a completed “John Randolph Foundation Scholarship Application” ONLINE which includes the ability to UPLOAD the required “attachments” requested on the application;Ineligibility
