A letter of intent is required for projects outside the foundation's primary focus areas.

Overview

NOTE: Our next grants may only fund projects involving K-12 education, companion animal welfare or water resources. For other projects, potential applicants are required to submit a letter of intent, stating mission, the project, the budget and the amount to be requested. Please wait for our response, prior to submitting a full application. Background The Charles Lamar Family Foundation was established by Charles W. Lamar III in 2000, as a permanent vehicle for his family to provide financial support to organizations striving to make a difference. We have funded a wide variety of projects and programs, usually in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area. We do not provide all of the funds for a project or program, because we want assurance that the wider community is committed to the activity. We expect our funds to be used as described in the grant application and require final reporting on the project and its actual revenues and expenses. Grant Procedure The Foundation makes about twenty (20) grants per year to 501(c)(3) organizations, totaling around $1,000,000. Our grants have varied from $5,000 to $400,000. Most are single grants; some are multi-year.  Grants are decided through competitive rounds in May and November each year. The Foundation generally makes grants to support a new or expanded activity — such as a building fund, a new program, a new staff position, or expansion of existing programs. We may also provide “bridge” funding when an established organization has lost a funding source. To be considered, an organization must show a feasible plan to complete and sustain the specific activity to which the grant pertains.

Eligibility
