The mission of The Charity Ball Association of San Antonio, Inc. is to support and enhance the quality of life for children of Bexar County. The Charity Ball Association makes a positive difference by providing direct financial support to agencies serving children in need. The charities who apply go through a rigorous and thorough grant selection process that includes financial, leadership and program review, site visits and evaluative follow-up after the money is distributed to assure compliance with all grant requirements. We offer two distinct funding programs. The majority of our funds are distributed through our Annual Grant Funding Process. The second funding program is the Children’s Opportunity Fund which is essentially an emergency fund used to meet immediate and critical needs. Annual Grant Funding Process The Charity Ball Association funds well-defined and specific projects designed to support and enhance the quality of life for the children of Bexar County. The funding cycle begins each October with the Charities Workshop. All Bexar County children’s charities are invited to attend. The Charity Ball Association strictly adheres to our Funding Policies, as well as the established deadlines. Late or nonconforming applications will be disqualified. The process and timeframe of our Grant Funding Cycle are generally the same year to year. Updates for the year are posted every September. Charities seeking funds should: Attend mandatory workshop (Fall) Submit Letter of Interest (November) If selected, submit Proposal (January) Prepare for a visit by, or presentation to, the Charities Committee (Spring) Look for notification of awarded grants (April/May) Distribution of Funds (May)Eligibility

FUNDING POLICIES: Grants are to assist 501(c)(3) organizations located in and serving children of Bexar County. Grants will be made only for well-defined, specific and measurable Projects/Programs and are contingent upon the success of the fundraising efforts of the Association.Grants will be considered for the following:Construction, enlargement or major repair of building(s), and improvements to real propertyThree competitive bids are required for any project using a contractor.In the case of construction, one-half of the funds will be available at the time construction begins and the other half upon completion of the projectProviding or improving equipment, furniture and/or furnishings, materials, and technology.Cost estimates must be supported by price sheets, quotes or other documentation.High priority needs of the community as determined annually by the Charities Committee of the Association.Special consideration may be given for the following:Projects/programs which do not duplicate or overlap existing servicesProjects/programs which impact the largest number of childrenProjects/programs which are collaborative efforts with other agenciesProjects/programs which are unlikely to be funded by another source.Agency must have been in operation for at least two years.Funds are not granted in consecutive years.If the proposal has more than one component, a priority list of the components must be submitted.All proposals must include a well-defined evaluation plan.Agencies should be prepared for a site visit or presentation in order to fully evaluate the proposal.Funded agencies will be required to sign a Use of Funds Agreement and a Substantial Completion Form and/or a Purchase Verification and Documentation of Payment Form.Funded agencies will be subject to periodic reviews and reporting requirements by The Charity Ball Association.Funds not used by the end of the second year following grant approval will be forfeited. Funds expire on May 1, 2027, two years after grant approval. No exceptions will be made.TARGET POPULATION: Children 0 – 18 years of age, living in Bexar County.Ineligibility
Grants will not be considered for the following:Projects which take place outside of Bexar County regardless of the location of the agencySalaries, contributions, or scholarshipsAutomobiles, vans, busses or any other means of transportation or transportation feesUndesignated donations to a Capital CampaignDebt service or deficit reductionLoans or loan guaranteesAdmission fees, trophies, prizes, medals, or field tripsThe Association does not accept appeals or letters of support on behalf of an agency.Focus Areas & Funding Uses
