Overview

Changing Aging (CA) Grant Changing Aging (CA) grants are designed to support economic opportunities for older adults and the organizations that serve them through systems-level and programmatic innovations in Next50’s three priority areas: ending ageism, advancing digital equity, and supporting aging in place. Grant requests are required to incorporate a component of innovation and advance equity for marginalized or geographically underserved communities to be considered for funding. Next50 will support a wide range of initiatives including research, start-ups, pilot projects, and direct services. Priority Project Ideas Examples of requests Next50 will consider include: Ending Ageism: A community organization working with older adults partners with a school district to launch intergenerational programming centered around reducing age-related stereotypes. Advancing Digital Equity: An urban nonprofit seeks to create a new program allowing them to bring an existing digital literacy program on the road, creating accessibility for rural and otherwise isolated older adult communities. Supporting Aging in Place: A nonprofit seeks to launch or expand a financial counseling program for low-income older adults in partnership with a local senior center and needs funding to train and certify staff in financial coaching. Please note that Next50 encourages organizations to review these suggested examples and we recognize that you understand your organizational needs best, therefore, we welcome other community-centered ideas for other types of support to change aging. Funding While there is no maximum request amount (and partial funding may be awarded), organizations planning to request $250,000 or more are required to have a phone call with a program officer before submitting their application. Indirect costs may be included in the Project Budget but may not exceed 20 percent of the requested amount.

A fiscal sponsor is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides fiduciary oversight, financial management, and other grant administrative services. A fiscal sponsor is held legally responsible for the management of grant funds and the obligations of the grant.The fiscal sponsor must have a formal relationship with the entity carrying out grant activities and be able to exercise control over grant activities. Next50 requires that the fiscal sponsor have a contractual relationship with the grant project partner and must possess a mission that clearly aligns with the activities of the grant.Next50 will support a wide range of initiatives including research, start-ups, pilot projects, direct services, and more.Applicants are required to incorporate an aspect of advancing equity for marginalized and/or geographically underserved communities. In addition, applicants will be required to demonstrate innovation by showing:How novel the project is If it is more effective, efficient, sustainable, or just than existing solutions  Organizations may apply for multiple funding opportunities but cannot be funded in more than one opportunity with the exception of Sudden & Urgent Need Grants.Organizations may submit only one application for Changing Aging.Funding may be requested for up to three years. Organizations planning to request multi-year funding are required to have a phone call with a program officer before submitting their application. Nonprofits that have not yet completed an external audit or those with an audit older than that of the specified date will be limited to funding requests of $30,000 or less.Nonprofits with an annual operating budget of $500,000 or less are eligible to request more than $30,000 but must submit an external Financial Review or Compilation in place of an audit.

Ineligibility

What will not be funded:LLCs or for-profit organizations (We do not accept applications from for-profit organizations under a non-profit fiscal sponsor) Requests that duplicate state or federal funding including Medicare and Medicaid. Requests for matching state or federal funding. Lobbying, political campaigns, and requests to support a specific political position. Fundraising and general event sponsorships Type III non-functionally integrated supporting organizations (as classified by IRS form 990, Schedule A, Part 1) Laboratory research:Next50 does not support basic science (wet lab) research. Wet-lab research includes projects where drugs, chemicals, and other types of biological matter are analyzed and/or tested. Next50 can and will support pilot projects, feasibility studies, and needs assessments that are research-based. These types of research activities are often necessary precursors to establish viability for the implementation of various innovations.
