Chaim Schwartz Foundation Grant

The Chaim Schwartz Foundation Grant supports initiatives that preserve and enrich Yiddish language, culture, theater, and art. Established in memory of Sandra Schwartz Tangri, the foundation aims to continue the rich social justice heritage of Yiddishkeit. Proposals can be project-specific or for general support, with grant amounts ranging from $500 to $5,000, and the application process is designed to be straightforward for non-profit organizations.

The Chaim Schwartz Foundation was created upon the death of his daughter, Sandra Schwartz Tangri, to carry on his life work of preserving and studying Yiddishkeit — that is, Yiddish language, culture, theater and art. It is a charitable, philanthropic fund; which is to say, it grants small amounts of money to recognized non-profit organizations for the purpose of preserving and enriching Yiddishkeit. The Chaim Schwartz Foundation has no paid staff and a minimal operating budget, and its only activity is to disburse monies through its small grants program.
The Chaim Schwartz Foundation is pleased to request proposals for activities that preserve and enrich Yiddish language, culture, theater and art. Proposals may be project-specific or for general support. We are particularly interested in projects that continue Yiddishkeit's rich social justice heritage.  The grant amounts are relatively small — $500 to $5,000 — and the application procedure commensurate.

Eligibility

The foundation grants only to non-profit organizations ("Qualified Charitable Recipients" in the language of the IRS).

Ineligibility

It cannot fund scholarships or make other grants to individuals.
