John and Barbara Grant Awards - Organization Grants

Funder: St. Andrew's Society of Los Angeles (SASLA)

Established: 2013, in memory of John Grant (past president) through a generous gift from Barbara Grant

Mission: SASLA promotes Scottish history, traditions, and culture by developing educational and charitable undertakings that nurture relations between the Society, the people of Los Angeles and the greater community.

Program Overview

SASLA offers a matching grants program to provide financial assistance to organizations in the Southern California community who wish to further enhance their work in Scottish history, traditions, crafts and other cultural pursuits.

Maximum Award: $2,500 per organization

Eligibility

  • Applicant Type: Organizations OR organization sponsors
  • Geographic Requirement: Resident of Southern California (must prove local residency)
  • Experience Requirement: Must demonstrate evidence of involvement in Scottish history, traditions, or other relevant cultural pursuits
  • Grant Amount: Not to exceed $2,500

Review Process

  • Grants are reviewed upon submission by the SASLA Grant & Charitable Giving Committee
  • Final grant amount approval rests with the recommendation of the Grant & Charitable Giving Committee and Board of Trustees approval
  • Decisions by the Board of Trustees are final and are not subject to appeal

Funding Criteria

  • Originality of purpose and quality of narrative
  • Feasibility of reaching stated outcomes
  • Evidence that the grant is being used as an enhancing (not enabling) grant
  • Agreement that SASLA may use organization's name, information, and photographs in Society website, social media, and other promotional/advertising vehicles

Application Status and Timeline

As of 2026-04-03: All allocated funds for 2024 and 2025 have been approved and distributed. No more applications are being accepted.

2026 Timeline:

  • Grant requests for 2026 cannot be submitted any earlier than August 2025

    Your narrative must address:

    1. Project Description: Describe the specific project, event, or occasion for which you are seeking funds
    2. Budget Documentation: Include a project budget detailing revenues or other contributions from other sources that are at least equal to the requested amount (matching grant requirement)
    3. Beneficiaries: Explain who will benefit from the funds and how they will benefit the project, event, or occasion
    4. Added Value: Describe what the award would allow you to do that otherwise would not be part of this project, event, or occasion and how SASLA will be informed of your progress in achieving your goal
