Overview

Carl F. Scott Scholarship Fund for Tucumcari Lodge #27 A.F. & A.M. Providing assistance to New Mexico residents from Quay County to continue their post-secondary education. Applications are considered for graduating high school seniors beginning their college education. In collaboration with Tucumcari Lodge No. 27 AF&AM, awards are made annually for students working toward a 2 or 4 year degree, masters, or doctoral degree. Carl Scott was born one year after New Mexico was admitted to the Union and called New Mexico home for 90 years. Mr. Scott was a graduate from the New Mexico Military Institute and served in World War II. After suffering an injury and becoming disabled, he returned to New Mexico to work as an engineer for the Civil Service. Through his estate, Carl Scott established a program to assist New Mexico residents from Quay County to continue their post-secondary education. In 2021, this fund provided 15 awards between $750 and $2000 for students to continue their education. Applicant may pursue a master’s, bachelor’s, or associate degree in a science and/or human service discipline without consideration of a planned career location OR ALTERNATIVELY applicant may pursue a degree, technical or vocational certificate, or a diploma for use in any planned trade or career in a northwest New Mexico community.

Applications are considered from graduating high school seniors beginning their college education, currently enrolled college students, or from nontraditional students. The nontraditional student is defined as a person who is returning to school after time away, pursuing a career change, or a first time adult student. For nontraditional students, the student must be a resident of Quay County for three years prior to the start of the school term for which the scholarship application is submitted.The student is the biological child, stepchild, or adopted child of a member in good standing of Tucumcari Lodge No. 27, AF & AM, ORThe student is, or will be a graduate of a Public High School, including Charter Schools, located in Quay County, ORThe student will be a resident of Quay County for two years prior to graduation from a homeschool program, ORWhile scholarships are not automatically renewable, recipients may reapply each year, and scholarships may be granted to returning students.All recipients must attend a nonprofit or public educational institution. The student must demonstrate a coherent degree plan with a reasonable timeline for graduation.Scholarships will be awarded based upon the merit of the information provided in the application, giving consideration to academic performance, financial need, leadership qualities, work experience, and other factors outlined in the application.No person will be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, disability, or familial status.
