BTFA Productions

Overview: BTFA executive produces projects led by New York City-based Black trans femme artists and works with those artists on distribution and community engagement around their productions.

Funding Support

BTFA provides:
• Funding for eligible projects
• Pre-production and production assistance
• Budget advice
• Marketing assistance
• Access to BTFA's artist and resource directory

Geographic Scope

New York City-based projects only

Eligibility Requirements

• Applicant: Individual Black trans femme artists or projects with multiple Black trans femmes in leadership roles
• Project-based: BTFA only funds specific projects, not general artist support
• Leadership requirement: Projects must be led by Black trans femmes (supporting or assisting roles do not qualify)
• Organizations: Not eligible for BTFA Productions funding
• Previous project requirement: Recipients cannot apply for new funding unless their project from the previous term is complete
• One project per funding cycle: Cannot apply for funding for the same project more than once

Funding Amounts

• Individual artists: Up to $5,000 per year
• Projects with multiple Black trans femmes in leadership: Up to $25,000 per year, scaled by number of leaders:
- $10,000 for 2 Black trans femmes in leadership - $15,000 for 3 Black trans femmes in leadership - $20,000 for 4 Black trans femmes in leadership - (Pattern continues: additional $5,000 per additional leader)

Funding Frequency

• Twice per year: Once for Fall/Winter and once for Spring/Summer
• Artists can only receive BTFA productions funding twice a year (one per season)

Project Requirements

• Public sharing: Projects must be able to be shared publicly on BTFA's website and social media
• Credit: BTFA must be credited as an Executive Producer on the project
