Overview

The Bruce J. Anderson Foundation provides grants for programs, direct services and new initiatives in the fields of mental health (treatment, research and suicide prevention, with a particular interest in mental health services supporting LGBTQIA young people), environmental protection, historic and archival preservation, and the arts. Grants are made for organizations and activities focused on two geographical areas: Cape Ann and Nashoba Valley.

The Bruce J. Anderson Foundation focuses its grantmaking in two geographical areas of Massachusetts:

* Cape Ann (specifically, the communities of Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester)
* Nashoba Valley (specifically, the communities of Harvard, Ayer, Groton, Pepperell, Shirley and Townsend.

Requests are sought in the $2,500 to $12,000 range. Grant funds are available to support activities that occur after July 1, 2024. Approved requests may be fully or partially funded. Please note that the Board of Directors favors:

* Programs that will serve a wide segment of the community and assist those who are not served adequately by existing resources.
* Demonstration projects that provide practical approaches for dealing with specific problems, and
* Programs where the Foundation’s contribution is likely to leverage additional support.

Eligibility

* To be eligible for support, your organization must be a 501(c)(3) public charity or operate under the fiscal sponsorship of a tax-exempt nonprofit.

* In addition, you must be primarily serving the people of Greater Boston, with the exception of regional, statewide or national public policy efforts that may benefit a substantial portion of the Greater Boston community.

* An eligible organization must be operated and organized so that it does not discriminate in the hiring of staff or the provision of services on the basis of race, religion, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, age, national origin or disability.
* Organizations that have received a multi-year grant will generally be expected to take at least one year off before submitting another application. 
* The Bruce J. Anderson Foundation focuses its grantmaking in two geographical areas of Massachusetts:

* Cape Ann (specifically, the communities of Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester)
* The communities of Harvard, Ayer, Groton, Pepperell, Shirley and Townsend.

Ineligibility

* In general, organizations are not eligible to receive more than one type of funding from the Foundation concurrently.
* Organizations that are denied funding through a competitive grants process may not re-apply until 12 months after its most recent denial letter from the Foundation.
* The Foundation does not make grants for capital construction costs, endowments, medical or academic research, scholarships, sectarian or religious purposes, or to support candidates for political office.
* Private non-operating foundations, 509(c)(4) organizations, and Section 509(a)(3) Type III Non-functionally Integrated organizations are not eligible to apply.
* The Board does not customarily make grants for:

* Scholarships or loans
* Conferences or films, and/or
* Religious programs

* Nor does the Foundation make grants to individuals.
