Overview

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Program (BCPP)

Geographic Scope: Tavush Province, Armenia (Berd, Ijevan, Noyemberyan, and Sisian regions)

Focus Areas: Extracurricular activities, folk crafts, youth development, rural empowerment

Program Duration: Since 2013 (multi-faceted and comprehensive)

Eligibility: Rural children and youth ages 7-12+

Program Description: Provides after-school groups and extracurricular activities including:

  • Sewing

  • Embroidery

  • Wood carving

  • Painting

  • Carpet weaving
  • Impact:

  • Over 800 children in Berd region since 2014 now have access to hobby and extracurricular activities

  • Expanded to Ijevan and Noyemberyan regions in 2023

  • 16 students ages 7-12 in carpet weaving group in Voskevan community

  • Helps preserve cultural traditions and instill confidence

  • Creates structured, purposeful ways for youth to spend free time
  • Funding: Generously funded by the Mardigian Family Foundation
