Bowling Green Community Foundation General Grants Program

Geographic Scope: 43402 and 43403 zip code areas and school district areas in Bowling Green, Ohio

Eligible Applicants: 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations located in the service area. Non-501(c)(3) organizations must have a sponsoring 501(c)(3) organization that is fiscally responsible for the grant funding.

Award Amount: Annual awards range from $500 to $7,500

Funding Focus Areas: Based on past grant recipients, the foundation supports a wide range of community needs including:

  • Youth development and education

  • Food security and nutrition

  • Mental health and wellness

  • Recreation and parks

  • Arts and culture

  • Violence prevention

  • Community safety

  • Domestic and sexual violence services

  • Developmental disabilities services

  • Environmental and sustainability initiatives
  • What They Do NOT Fund: The foundation does not make grants to individuals except through scholarship funds established specifically for that purpose.

    Application Timeline: Grant applications are open yearly from mid-August to the first week of October. Awards are announced in January of the following calendar year.

    Grant Application Process

    Step 1: Download and Sign Signature Page

  • Download the Grant Application Signature Page document

  • Must be signed by the applicant and the CEO or President of the 501(c)(3) organization

  • For non-501(c)(3) organizations with a sponsoring organization, must be signed by the CEO or President of the sponsoring organization (to confirm fiscal responsibility)

  • Have signatures ready before proceeding
  • Step 2: Prepare Required Documents
    Prepare the following documents and name files with organization name followed by document name (e.g., BGCF_taxexcemption.pdf):

  • a.) Copy of organization's 501(c)(3) tax exemption document (or sponsoring organization's 501(c)(3) document if applicable)

  • b.) Document with names and affiliations of organization's board of trustees, executive committee, and/or volunteers for this project

  • c.) The signed signature form from Step 1
  • Step 3: Review Evaluation Tools

  • Download and review "Guidelines for Grant Seekers" document

  • Download and review "Scoring Rubric" document

  • The signature form states that applicant has read and understands these documents

  • Use these as tools to ensure application completeness
  • Step 4: Prepare Application Answers

  • Download "Grant Application Questions Reference" document

  • Prepare answers to all questions in advance

  • Document is for reference only and will NOT be accepted as an application
  • Step 5: Submit Online Application

  • Complete and submit grant application through the online portal (link provided on website)

  • ONLY digital submissions via the online form will be accepted

  • Have all documents ready before submitting
