Overview

Beatrice Educational Foundation Scholarships

Geographic Scope: Beatrice, Nebraska (Beatrice High School graduates and Beatrice School District students)

Purpose: To provide funds to deserving students needing assistance to attend a school of higher learning

Focus Areas: Multiple named scholarships with specific criteria including:

  • Music education

  • Military service commitment

      Award Details

    • Scholarships are awarded annually at the Beatrice Public Schools spring awards ceremony
    • Unless otherwise specified by donor, scholarships are not paid until after recipient completes first semester/quarter in accredited institution with transcript submission
    • If recipient fails to enroll or does not complete semester/quarter, alternate recipient selected
    • Available for 5-year period if student needs funds later for tuition, room and board, or books
    • Should recipient receive other scholarships exceeding need, foundation scholarship held and made available later within 5-year window

    • Perley F. and Bessie V. Bates Scholarship - $400 (good citizenship, financial need)
    • BHS Class of 1969 Scholarship - $500 (top 40% class rank, leadership, financial need)
    • Diane Cornelius Scholarship - $500 (music participation, community service, top 50% GPA)
    • DiErberger, Tim, Scholarship - $500 (varsity sport participation, team-first mentality)
    • Marjorie A. Hartig Scholarship - $500 (military/national guard commitment, 2.0 GPA minimum)
    • Delvin D. Koch Scholarship - $500 (2.5+ GPA, good citizenship, financial need)
    • George W. McNenny Scholarship - $500 (art/architecture career, high academic achievement)
    • Virgil and Rhoda Pethoud Scholarship - Two $500 scholarships (softball participation 2+ years; medical field career, 3.0+ GPA)
    • BHS Class of 1961 Scholarship - $700 (top 40% class rank, scholastic ability, financial need, exemplary ethics)
    • Don Linn Scholarship - $700 (scholastic ability, financial need)
    • Virgil and Teda Jurgens Scholarship - $750 (baseball participation, top 25% class rank, financial need)
    • Arden and Barbara Nitz Softball Scholarship - $750 (softball junior and senior year, letter of intent to play, financial need)
    • Irene Sokolik Scholarship - $750 (3.0+ GPA)
    • Randy Diller Scholarship - $1,000 (special education teaching career, 2.5+ GPA)
    • Garold E. and Clarice A. Kleveland Scholarship - $1,000 payable over four semesters (auto mechanics at Southeast Community College, 2.0+ GPA to continue)
    • Max Manes Scholarship - $1,000 (accounting career, 3.5+ GPA, good citizenship)
    • Lucas Martin Scholarship - $1,000 (male, soccer participation junior and senior years, team-first mentality)
    • Greg Replogle Scholarship - $1,000 (nursing career, 3.0+ GPA)
    • Beatrice Sertoma Club Scholarship - $1,000 (general education, preference for speech/hearing focus)
    • Beatrice Sertoma Club Southeast Community College Scholarship - $500 (Southeast Community College-Beatrice Campus, preference for speech/hearing focus)
    • Rick Simmons Scholarship - $1,000 (trades careers in Nebraska post-secondary institute)

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Deadline: March 1st at 4:00 p.m. in the Beatrice High School Student Services Office

    Required Format: Typewritten applications required

    Required Materials:
    1. Beatrice Educational Foundation Scholarship Application Form (general form used for all scholarships)
    2. Student Aid Report (SAR) from Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) - required for most scholarships
    3. Three letters of recommendation (requirements vary by scholarship:
    - Generally 2-3 letters required
    - Some specify 2 from school personnel, 1 from community member
    - Some specify specific recommender (e.g., head coach for sports scholarships)
    - Some allow up to 3 letters from variety of sources: teacher, coach, employer, clergy member, community leader, or community member
    4. For military scholarships: Proof of commitment to military/national guard
    5. For sports scholarships: May require letter of intent to play

    Application Guidelines:

  • Each applicant must in good faith meet the criteria of the scholarship for which they are applying

  • If criteria not met, scholarship may be awarded to alternate at discretion of Beatrice Educational Foundation

  • Incomplete or non-qualifying applications may be rejected
