BEAR Grant (BEAR Legacy Grant)

  • Overview:
    Created in 2014, the BEAR Legacy Grant encourages initiatives focusing on innovation, creativity, community and global projects. The purpose is to support White Bear Lake Area School District students, staff and community members working with students. Applications are reviewed on a continual basis throughout the school year until the maximum of $10,000 per year is awarded.

    Eligibility:

  • White Bear Lake Area School District Employees

  • Students attending the White Bear Lake Area School District

  • Community members in the White Bear Lake Area School District
  • Eligible Projects:
    All projects must enhance the learning experience or personal growth of White Bear Lake Area School District students and develop opportunities that complement the district mission and/or strategic plan.

    What They Don't Fund:
    Projects that fall under the Brosious Grant, Glasrud Fellowship, Ryan Art Grant, Gayle Sundt Creative Arts Support Fund, or the John McCormick Environmental Educational Grant will not be considered for a BEAR Grant.

    Award Terms:

  • Projects are funded for twelve months after which unused funds revert to the Foundation

  • Maximum of $10,000 per year total

  • Expenses are reimbursed after submitting a reimbursement form with original receipts

  • A written results-based evaluation or 3-5 minute presentation to the Foundation Board is required within two months of project completion

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    1. Complete the online application and submit through the online portal
    2. If district staff: Have your building principal review the project prior to submitting, with agreement that the project aligns with district goals
    3. Submission period: September 1 - August 31 (rolling deadline)
    4. Review: White Bear Lake Area Educational Foundation's Program Committee reviews applications on a continual basis
    5. Approval: Once approved by the WBLAEF Board of Directors, applicant must receive permission from Program Committee if changes are needed
    6. Reimbursement: Submit reimbursement form with original receipts to WBLAEF office
    7. Evaluation: Submit written results-based evaluation or arrange 3-5 minute presentation with WBLAEF office within two months of project completion
