Overview

Purpose ASTR recognizes that translators and translations make significant contributions to the field of theatre and performance on a worldwide scale. To fully acknowledge and promote the scholarly value of translations, ASTR awards an outstanding translation into English of a work in the field of theatre and performance studies. Works eligible for consideration would include individual plays, performance texts, collections of plays and/or performance texts, scholarly books, essays, and articles. In its deliberations, the selection committee will take into consideration the different categories of submissions (plays, scholarly books, essays, etc.) and aim to distribute the award equitably among them over a five-year award cycle. The Award This award provides a $500 honorarium and complimentary conference registration.

Eligibility

The eligible translation(s):Must have been published during the previous calendar year in any location around the world.Must be a translation into English from any source language.Can be a single play or performance text, a collection of plays and/or performance texts, a scholarly book, or a scholarly essay/article.Book-length works should include a substantial editorial apparatus that introduces and annotates the translated work, and places it in relevant historical, political, social, and scholarly contexts.Essays or articles should be accompanied by a statement from the author or nominator that introduces the translated work, and places it in relevant historical, political, social, and scholarly contexts.Must be the work of a single translator, or a team of up to (but not exceeding) four collaborating translators. You must be a member of this organization to apply for this award - become a member.
