Overview

ARIN Community Grant Program

Status: 2026 application period: 16 April - 14 June 2026

Total Budget (2026): US$50,000

Geographic Scope: ARIN region (with some benefit outside the region acceptable if ARIN region benefits broadly)

Mission: Provides financial grants in support of operational and research projects that improve the overall Internet industry and user environment.

Focus Areas (Project Categories):

  • Internet technical improvements: Promote and facilitate expansion, development, and growth of global Internet infrastructure consistent with public interest; enhance RPKI benefits and its development and global deployment

  • Registry processes and technology improvements: Enhance registry processes and technologies contributing to globally consistent and highly usable Internet Number Registry System

  • Informational outreach: Advance Internet topics including IPv6 deployment, routing security, Internet research, and Internet governance

  • Research: Projects related to ARIN's mission and operations
  • Eligibility:

  • Eligible organizations: Nonprofits, NGOs, nonprofit educational bodies, academic and research institutions, open-source groups (must be noncommercial)

  • Projects must align with ARIN's mission and strategic goals

  • Projects must broadly benefit the Internet community within ARIN service region

  • Must be noncommercial in nature (no commercial projects with primary goal of generating profits)

  • Only one application per organization per year

  • Organizations may reapply yearly and receive funding up to two consecutive years

  • Must demonstrate specific benefit within ARIN region with detail for evaluation
  • What Will NOT Be Funded:

  • Local Internet access

  • Scholarships or tuition

  • Humanitarian aid

  • Donations

  • Political reform

  • Commercial projects
  • Project Requirements:

  • Implementation timeline for completion within 12 months preferred (for long-term sustainable results)

  • Research funding requests must document specific use case

  • Software projects must include software requirement document or mockup

  • If code or data will be generated, must explain data management plan (preference for open-source, not required)

  • If ARIN staff involved, must specify resource commitment

  • Budget breakdown required; no more than 5% for promotional purposes, administrative overhead, travel, or equipment

  • Project must solve identified problem with specific, achievable, measurable outcomes
  • Selection Committee:

  • Two ARIN staff members (one as Chair)

  • Four representatives from General Members or ARIN-elected individuals

  • Committee members not precluded from serving successive terms

  • Scoring on 50-point scale covering: alignment with eligibility (1-5 pts), relevance and reach (1-10 pts), impact (1-15 pts), budget (1-10 pts), likelihood of success (1-10 pts)

  • Board of Trustees makes final selection decision
  • Timeline:

  • Applications accepted: 16 April - 14 June 2026

  • Grant Selection Committee reviews: 6 July - 7 August 2026

  • Applicants notified: August-September 2026

  • Grant recipients announced: September 2026

  • Funds disbursed: September 2026

  • Project update reports due: March 2027

  • Prerecorded presentation at spring ARIN Meeting 2027 required

  • Final project reports due: October 2027
  • Reporting Requirements:

  • First project update report due by end of March 2027 (submitted through SurveyMonkey Apply)

  • In-person or virtual presentation at spring ARIN Meeting 2027

  • Brief survey to help improve program

  • Final written report due September 2027 (submitted via email)

  • Reports must include specific details on objectives, fund usage, outcomes, individuals reached, and Internet industry benefit in ARIN region

      Project Budget

    • Ensure no more than 5% budget allocated to promotional purposes, administrative overhead, travel, or equipment
    • Budget must appear reasonable and customary
    • Funding request must not be commercial in nature or for excluded purposes

      Outcomes, Impact, and Sustainability

    • Long-term value: How outcomes can be sustained beyond funding year
    • Community involvement: Diversity of actors in implementation (community members, volunteers, partner organizations)
    • Measurability: Specific, quantifiable and qualitative outcomes

    • Confirm noncommercial nature of project
    • Confirm project aligns with ARIN mission
    • Confirm project broadly benefits ARIN region
    • Privacy acknowledgment: data collection and processing per ARIN Privacy Statement
