Overview

Adoption Matching Grants

Overview: Awards to help families offset adoption expenses through a dollar-for-dollar matching grant program administered by participating churches through Promise686.

Award Amount:

  • $500 to $4,000 for adoption of one child

  • $500 to $6,000 for adoption of more than one child
  • Geographic Scope: Georgia (Promise686 Georgia grants require residency in Georgia; other Promise686 affiliates in other states may have similar programs)

    How It Works:

  • Families fundraise within their sphere of influence (letters, emails, face-to-face meetings)

  • Church Adoption Funds match funds raised dollar-for-dollar up to the grant amount

  • Funds raised over the grant amount also go toward family's adoption expenses

  • Creates an "adoption team" for community building and post-adoption support
  • Eligible Expenses (Per IRS guidelines, Promise686 maintains discretion over fund use but strives to honor donor preferences):

  • Agency fees

  • Translation fees (if not included in agency fees)

  • USCIS fees and fingerprinting

  • Visa and passport fees (parents and adopted children)

  • Airline, travel, and lodging expenses (parents and adopted children only)

  • International fees

  • Required cash donations to orphanages

  • Post-placement reports
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must live in Georgia (for Promise686 Georgia grants)

  • Family's adoption home study must be complete with favorable recommendation from licensed 501(c)(3) adoption agency

  • Both applicants (husband and wife) must be members in good standing of a Christian church adhering to the truths of the Nicene Creed

  • Must be utilizing a non-profit adoption agency
