Mission & Overview

Help For Children has awarded more than $62 million through 1,849 grants to 398 organizations, reaching over 1.4 million children and families worldwide since 1998. The grantmaking model is designed to identify and champion organizations that build resilience in children and families through a unique collaboration of HFC Academic Consultants (a global network of social welfare experts) and HFC Grants Committees composed of dedicated professionals from the Alternative Investment industry.

    Geographic Scope

    HFC makes grants in the following communities:
  • Asia: Hong Kong (Registered Charities)
  • Cayman Islands: Grand Cayman & Cayman Brac (NGOs and Government Ministries)
  • Canada: Metropolitan Toronto Area (not accepting LOIs for 2026) (Registered Charities)
  • United Kingdom: London and Southeast (Registered Charities)
  • United States:
  • - Denver: Greater Denver Area (501(c)(3)) - San Francisco: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Napa and Solano Counties (501(c)(3)) - New York: Tri-state Area (NY, NJ, CT) (501(c)(3)) - Los Angeles: Greater Los Angeles Region (not accepting LOIs for 2026) (501(c)(3)) - Chicago: 100 miles from Chicago and within Twin Cities (501(c)(3)) - Atlanta: Greater Atlanta Area (501(c)(3))

    Focus Areas & What We Fund

    HFC grants support organizations that address child maltreatment through prevention or treatment. Grants are designed to provide essential support for:
  • Ongoing programs
  • Program expansions and new initiatives
  • Time-limited projects (e.g., writing and production of educational materials)

Four Key Impact Areas:

1. Direct Services: Counseling, group work, home visits, mentoring, coaching, and case management
2. Education: Educational programs for children, parents, and communities; professional training for practitioners
3. Advocacy: Policy development, legal advocacy, and public service/digital campaigns
4. Research: Rigorous qualitative and quantitative studies to generate data and inform child abuse prevention and treatment

    What We Do NOT Fund

  • Lobbying activities
  • Annual fundraising drives
  • Projects undertaken by individuals
  • Multi-year grants (grants are single-year only)

    Eligibility

  • Must be 501(c)(3) organizations (in US locations), Registered Charities (in international locations), or NGOs/Government Ministries (Cayman Islands)
  • Located in designated geographic regions
  • Demonstrate proven effectiveness in child maltreatment prevention and treatment
  • New applicants must submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) in the first stage

  • 2026/2027 Cycle: Applications are now CLOSED
  • 2027/2028 Cycle: Applications will open in July 2026

Grantmaking Model

HFC's commitment is anchored by academic collaboration with HFC Academic Consultants—social welfare experts and faculty from local universities in grantmaking locations. Their extensive social work training and local ties ensure locally informed vetting and guarantee funding supports the most effective, community-strengthening programs.

How to Apply

Application Procedure (Two-Stage Process)

#### STEP 1: Letter of Intent (LOI)

For New Applicants:

  • Eligible organizations must submit a Letter of Intent (LOI)

  • After internal review, selected organizations will be invited to proceed to Step 2

  • All declined LOIs will be acknowledged
  • For Current Grantees:

  • Grantees reapplying for the same program skip the LOI process

  • Reapplication is encouraged, but continued funding is not guaranteed
  • #### STEP 2 (By Invitation Only): Request for Proposal (RFP)

    Process:
    1. Invited applicants submit a full Request for Proposal (RFP) with supporting documentation
    2. All proposals are reviewed by the Grants Committee (HFC staff, Board members, and HFC Academic Consultants)
    3. Site visits and/or presentations to the Committee may be requested
    4. Final funding decisions are made by the Grants Committee, guided by HFC Academic Consultants
    5. Applicants are notified of results by July 1
