A.L. "Mike" Monroe/Ralph D. Williams, III Sports Scholarship
Overview: This scholarship program was created at the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Convention in 1999 to offer student-athletes the opportunity to pursue their athletic ambitions while earning an advanced educational degree at the academic institution of their choosing. The scholarship is named after A.L. "Mike" Monroe and Ralph D. Williams, III, who despite their athletic talent lacked the resources to attend college and instead joined the Union at a young age. This scholarship gives IUPAT members' children the chance to attain higher education.
Geographic Scope: International (IUPAT members and their dependents)
Focus Areas: Higher education combined with athletic participation
- Must be a legal dependent of an IUPAT member in good standing
- Supply an official high school transcript
- Provide a complete history of athletic participation and special recognition in high school
- Register with the NCAA Clearinghouse and declare the athletic program in which applicant will participate
- Obtain a letter of recommendation from the coach or athletic director of the institution the applicant has been accepted to and chosen to attend
- Provide a complete record of additional financial aid
- Must enroll in school of choice within one year of award date or forfeit the award
