13th Year Promise Scholarships – Legacy Schools Grant

Program Description: The 13th Year Promise Scholarship was established by the South Seattle College Foundation to provide support to graduating high school seniors from designated Legacy Schools. The program has evolved into the broader Seattle Promise program managed jointly by the City of Seattle, Seattle Colleges, and Seattle Public Schools.

Background & History:

  • Conceived at SSCF Board retreat in December 2006

  • First students enrolled from Cleveland High School in Fall Quarter 2008

  • Chief Sealth International High School added in 2011

  • Rainier Beach High School added in 2014

  • West Seattle High School added in 2018

  • These four schools are now known as the "Legacy Schools"

  • The 13th Year Promise served as the model for the expanded Seattle Promise program city-wide
  • Geographic Scope: Seattle, WA

    Designated Legacy Schools:

  • Cleveland High School

  • Chief Sealth International High School

  • Rainier Beach High School

  • West Seattle High School
  • Program Details:

  • Seattle Promise provides ALL graduating seniors from any Seattle public high school with up to two years (or 90 credits) of FREE in-state tuition and support services at Seattle Colleges (South, Central, or North)

  • Legacy Schools students attending South Seattle College are eligible for an additional stipend of up to $200 per quarter for books and/or supplies
  • Eligibility:

  • Graduating seniors from one of the four Legacy Schools

  • Enrolling at South Seattle College

  • Must also meet general Seattle Promise requirements

  • Program reviewed and updated annually by the SSCF Board of Directors
