Founder: Al Stroobants
Al Stroobants was born in Belgium during World War II and survived the war-torn conditions of the early 1940s. He completed his basic education and entered a trade apprentice program at Collège Technique de Charleroi, earning a machinist tool and die certificate within three years. At age 24, he immigrated to the United States through a student exchange program, eventually becoming one of only 35 young men from Belgium selected for this opportunity.
Stroobants founded Belgium Tool and Die (later renamed Belvac), which became one of the nation's most successful small businesses and a leader in can production machinery manufacturing. At its peak, the company held 90% of the can manufacturing market in the United States and 80% worldwide, servicing customers in 35 countries. Stroobants was also recognized as one of the top Angus cattle breeders in the world, selling livestock internationally to Japan, Australia, Brazil, and Canada.
