Gordon had a distinguished 40-year career with Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith, where he rose to senior vice president and specialized in opening and managing offices in the New York City and Washington, DC areas. After retiring in the 1990s, he served as a national arbiter for FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority).

Jocelyn Beausire Allan Linke is the co-founder and surviving spouse. She and Gordon were married for 63 years.
