Food Bank for New York City

Mission: Empower every New Yorker to achieve food security for good.

The organization operates across four primary program areas:

Food Distribution — Distributes nutritious, culturally relevant food through its partner network. In fiscal year 2024, the organization distributed 109 million pounds of food (equivalent to 91 million meals), exceeding distribution goals by 24 million pounds. The organization provides over 100 types of culturally familiar foods and has delivered 1.6 billion pounds of food since its founding.

Financial Empowerment — Provides free income tax preparation services with a focus on the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for low to moderate-income New Yorkers. In fiscal year 2024, over 20,000 tax returns were prepared and filed. The organization has secured $465 million in SNAP benefits for 140,000+ households, generating $760 million in economic impact for NYC. The organization also operates the Food and Finances Lab, a community-based financial coaching program for food-insecure New Yorkers.

Nutrition Education — Provides nutrition education workshops for children, teens, and adults to encourage healthy eating and dietary development. In fiscal year 2024, over 60,000 participants engaged in nutrition education workshops, with significant participation through the CookShop program in schools. The organization has empowered 630,000+ people through nutrition education since its founding.

Disaster Relief — Provides emergency food assistance during crises.
