The Bob Woodruff Family Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity established in 2007 and based in Long Island City, New York. Founded by Robert "Bob" Woodruff and his wife Lee, the foundation was created following Bob Woodruff's experience as a journalist. In 2006, while reporting for ABC's "World News Tonight" on the transfer of power between US and Iraqi security forces, Woodruff's armored vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb, resulting in a life-threatening traumatic brain injury. After being transported to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, he spent 36 days in a medically-induced coma. During his recovery, the Woodruff family developed a deep commitment to supporting those affected by military service.
