Overview

The Yukon Foundation Yukon Foundation is all about Yukoners helping Yukoners achieve their potential through grants for projects. As Yukoners, we are proud to see the fellow Yukoners we've supported in past years grow towards their goals and play leadership roles in our communities. Established with in 1980 with $1,700, the Yukon Foundation has grown to over $8 million, administering scholarships and grants from over 150 dedicated and general funds under the auspices of the Yukon Foundation Act. Objectives To promote educational advancement and scientific or medical research for the enhancement of human knowledge; To provide support intended to contribute to the mental, cultural and physical well-being of residents of the Yukon; and To promote the cultural heritage of the Yukon. Project Grants Belle & Curly Desrosiers A grant established by bequest to provide funding for a project to support physically challenged people. Cacilie Wigen A grant established by her husband to support a local women’s shelter and/or a local animal shelter. CPR Yukon A grant to: Support heart healthy initiatives that benefit the Yukon public and promote communities where people are trained in CPR techniques and have access to early defibrillation,To assist with the purchase of CPR training equipment including mannequins and AED trainers,To support training in CPR/AED/First Aid techniques for community organizations with a demonstrated need OR To support CPR instructor/trainer development and continuing education. Requirements: Applicants must clearly identify how their project will benefit/improve access to CPT/AED training for Yukon people. Applications should be related to the education of prevention of heart diseases, and/or first aid for heart attacks and strokes. Debra Dungey A grant to assist any women's group. Dereen Hildebrand A grant to support: Musicians attending an arts festival in Canada The promotion of local arts skills enhancement ORStudio time for musicians. Des Duncan A grant for projects or group training programs related to cross-country skiing in Yukon. Doreene & Herb Wahl A grant for special projects to improve or update the knowledge of education or environmental sciences (including: climatology, meteorology, glaciology, permafrost, soils, vegetation, wildlife, and horticulture), as they pertain to the Yukon. Douglas B. Craig A grant to provide capital for an enterprise or project with a focus on sustainable energy, renewable local resource use, or northern agriculture. George Green A grant for Yukon charities committed to ensuring that people throughout the Yukon are provided with the accommodation and support required to reach their full potential. Gladys Bruce A grant to support projects related to biology or geology. Government of Yukon Legacy A grant to assist groups with Yukon projects. Hougen Family A grant for the scholarly study, preservation, and enhancement, of historical and cultural activities related to the life and progress of the Yukon. May be used in support of a museum, archive or archaeology project. May be used to purchase, for public display, art works which reflect the history of the Yukon and the talent of its people. Jan Montgomery A grant for any worthy project which contributes to the aesthetic enhancement of any properties owned or maintained by the City of Whitehorse. John & Doris Stenbraten A grant established to support: A project relating to mining in the Yukon,A project relating to animal welfare in the Yukon, ORThe publication of work related to the Yukon Klondike Defence Force A grant established in the 1966 to battle the take-over of Klondike history by other parts of Canada. A scholarship or grant for research about or studies in Yukon history. Les McLaughlin A grant for research or studies about Yukon history. Maureen & Giles Fontaine A grant to provide special equipment for physically challenged persons. Mayo Historical Society A grant to support research projects designed to contribute to the ongoing acquisition of knowledge about the Mayo District. Seed money for this fund originated from the Mayo Historical Society's book, Gold & Galena. Northern Writers Circle A grant established to promote Yukon writers of any genre who are previously published. Rick & Maureen Nielsen Action Canada Northern Youth Research Award A grant for a community-based research project activity, or component of a research project, which demonstrates research and leadership skills. Research to be focused on climate change impacts and adaptation of the health and well-being of Northern communities. Research can be based upon natural, traditional, or social science topics. Robert & Jean Campbell A grant for educational projects, in Yukon or Atlin, designed to advance the business skills of participants. Rod Tait Memorial A grant to support a Yukon project involving agriculture. ROY MINTER A grant for the scholarly research and authorship of Yukon history or for the acquisition and preservation of Yukon related historical documents and artifacts. Ryan Downing A grant to develop or promote competitive cross-country skiing or competitive swimming. Applications can be, but are not limited to facility improvement, training opportunities, competition opportunities, equipment, officials training, coaching opportunities. Sgt. James Giczi A grant for projects relating to forensic identification, criminology (criminal justice), or forensic sciences. ​Preference will be given to organizations with links to the RCMP or to other police forces. Slim Foster A designated grant established to be directly awarded to the Yukon Women’s Transition Home Society. Tanner Family A grant to fund a project for the protection of the natural environment of Yukon. Ted & Nicky Harrison A designated grant to support the Ted Harrison Artist Retreat Society. Ted Feser A designated grant established by the Grey Mountain Lions Club to be directly awarded to Special Olympics Yukon. Versluce Brothers A grant established by bequest to benefit senior citizens, particularly the Golden Age Society of Whitehorse. Whitehorse Boys and Girls Club Youth Awards A grant to support Whitehorse projects which serve the needs of children ages 7 to 14 years. Projects may be, but are not limited to, the following: Group travel to a special event Development in the arts Playground development A one-time capital item for a youth centre A conference for children Travel or fee assistance for children to attend a summer camp or special educational program Priority: For volunteer and non-profit groups. Yukon First Nations Heritage A grant for projects that support the education of Yukon First Nation students or that preserve the cultural heritage of First Nation people. Yukon Outdoors Club A grant for: A non-government historical research project,A project related to the Chilkoot Trail, OR A project related to the development of the Yukon portion of the Canada Trail Yukon Recycling Research A grant ($2,500*) to support an organization undertaking activities to promote and enhance recycling and other strategies to reduce waste in the Yukon. Organizations may apply more than once. This award is either a scholarship or a grant each year.

Project funds may be extended into the next fiscal year, with permission. Where possible, recognition shall be given to the donor and the Yukon Foundation by the grant recipient.
