Youth Programming - Journalism and Multimedia Fellowship

Program Type: Journalism and multimedia fellowship for high school students

Overview: Afro Charities launched its inaugural Journalism and Multimedia Fellowship program for Baltimore City high school students in 2022. The program encourages students to research and analyze the AFRO American Newspapers' physical and digital archival collection and create new work inspired by it. Through this program, students create written work, new media (such as audio or video), visual art, and/or performance art that recounts and reinterprets Baltimore history.

Eligibility: Baltimore City high school students

Duration: Spring semester (pilot program)

Participant Support: Students receive stipends for their participation and select students have their work published in the AFRO and its worldwide distribution platforms

Pilot Program Details (2022): Partnered with Leaders of Tomorrow Youth Center and Coppin Academy, working with 15 students
