Young & Emerging Artist Scholarship

Overview:
The Laguna Dance Festival offers scholarships to pre-professional dance students in Southern California pursuing professional dance careers and/or planning to study dance in higher education.

Award Details:

  • Amount: $500–$1,000 per recipient

  • Geographic Scope: Southern California

  • Age Groups: Two separate categories:

  • - Young Artist: ages 14–17
    - Emerging Artist: ages 18–22

    Eligibility:

  • Pre-professional dance students in Southern California

  • Pursuing a professional dance career and/or planning to study dance in higher education

  • Ages 14–17 (Young Artist category) or 18–22 (Emerging Artist category)
  • Use of Funds:
    Recipients may use scholarship money at their discretion to cover:

  • Audition and college application fees

  • Choreographer fees

  • Private lessons

  • Competition costs
  • Additional Benefits:
    Scholarship recipients may be considered for community and professional performance opportunities at the discretion of the artistic leadership team.

    Program History:
    Since its inception in 2013, the Scholarship Program has awarded more than 200 scholarships to dancers from diverse disciplines across California.

    Application Process

    Current Status (as of 2026-04-03):
    The 2026 Young & Emerging Scholarship Application cycle is now closed. Applications will reopen in Fall 2026.

    Application Requirements

    Required Information:
    1. Full name (first and last)
    2. Birthdate (must verify age eligibility: 14–17 or 18–22)
    3. Complete mailing address
    4. Student email address
    5. Parent/Guardian email address (required for high school applicants)
    6. How you heard about the scholarship opportunity

    Required Documents:
    1. Training Information - Describe your current training, teachers, summer intensives, and other contributions to your dance education
    2. Dance Action Shot #1 (Required) - Upload an action shot (not a performance photo); max file size 850 MB
    3. Dance Action Shot #2 (Optional) - Additional action shot; max file size 850 MB
    4. Personal Statement (Required) - Approximately 250 words or less describing yourself and how you would use the scholarship money
    5. Video Audition Link (Required) - Self-choreographed or choreographed solo meeting these requirements:
    - Minimum 1 minute, maximum 2 minutes in length
    - Any style welcome
    - No reels or compilations
    - Video must be recorded within the last 6 months
    6. Headshot (Optional) - Does not need to be professionally taken; max file size 850 MB
    7. Letter of Recommendation (Optional) - Can be sent separately to amandak@lagunadancefestival.org; preferably written by an artistic mentor

    Performance Obligation:
    Applicants must acknowledge that if selected, they will be expected to make every effort to perform at least one Laguna Dance event during the 2026 calendar year, including:

  • Main Stage Festival

  • Art Walks

  • Annual Gala

  • Social Media opportunities

  • Other events
    • Separate Application Forms

      Two separate application forms exist:
    • Young Artist Scholarship Application (ages 14–17)
    • Emerging Artist Scholarship Application (ages 18–22)
