WORTH: The Next Generation of Philanthropists

Overview:
A young professionals group dedicated to teaching individuals aged 25-40 how philanthropy works through collaborative giving model. Launched in 2015.

Geographic Scope: Fort Worth and North Texas region (11 counties)

Target Audience:

  • Ages 25-40

  • Young professionals (Millennials and Generation X)

  • Individuals interested in learning about and participating in philanthropy
  • Program Model:

  • Membership Fee: $250 per member per year

  • Dollar Matching: Member contributions are matched dollar-for-dollar by other Community Foundation investors

  • Collaborative Grantmaking: Members analyze grant proposals, debate, vote on, and award grant funds collectively

  • Focus Areas: Members select annual focus issue (past examples: prevention and treatment of child abuse)

  • Impact: Example: ~40 members analyzed and awarded $25,000 in grants in first year

    Membership Process

    1. Attend an Event: Participants attend WORTH educational events and networking meetings

    2. Learn About Philanthropy: Members receive education on philanthropic process, nonprofit needs, and community issues

    3. Membership Contribution: Pay $250 membership fee

    4. Matching Funds: Member contribution is matched dollar-for-dollar by Community Foundation investors

    5. Focus Selection: Participate in selecting annual focus area/issue for grantmaking

    6. Proposal Review: Receive and analyze grant proposals from nonprofits

    7. Grant Meeting: Attend collaborative meeting with other members to discuss, debate, and vote on grant awards
